INTRODUCTION
about
Mindanao is the second largest island of The Philippines at the southern end of the archipelago. It’s culture consists of mostly Muslim or “Moro” people. It is also composed of other ethnic groups such as the Maranao, Tausug, Banguingi, and indigenous tribes known as Lumad.

Contemporary art is art created in the twenty-first century by artists. Contemporary art enables us to reflect on contemporary society and the challenges that affect us and the world we live in. Contemporary artists operate in a world that is increasingly globalized, culturally varied, and technologically advanced. Their work is a dynamic synthesis of materials, methods, concepts, and issues that defies easy categorization and pushes established boundaries.
Filipinos have established themselves as one of the most inventive and colorful people on the planet. With the various forms of arts produced in various countries, each region has its distinct product specialty in which to take pride. The Philippines has an abundance of natural resources, particularly in Mindanao. The second-largest in the Philippines (after Luzon), Mindanao island is located in the archipelago's southern region, surrounded by the Bohol, Philippine, Celebes, and Sulu seas. The island is characterized by peninsulas and is significantly indented in the south by the Davao and Moro gulfs and in the north by Iligan Bay. The long, semicircular Zamboanga Peninsula (west) extends southwesterly toward Sulu and Borneo, while the Cotabato and Surigao peninsulas extend south and north, respectively. Mindanao is frequently portrayed as a dangerous place filled with danger, hatred, conflict, politics, and anarchy. However, to truly appreciate its beauty, one must experience Mindanao's vibrant culture, which, like its arts, is bursting with life and color. Mindanao's vibrant and diversified arts and cultures, whether folk or contemporary, are replicated throughout the year through traditional arts festivals and an increasing number of programs led by contemporary artists and authors who best understand and appreciate contemporary Mindanao.
Contemporary art is critical to the lives of Filipinos; it is critical because each work of contemporary art reflects someone's emotions, thoughts, or opinions. Filipinos can express themselves in a way that is safe for others to observe through contemporary art. It is a kind of self-expression. It teaches pupils to think critically by examining the factors that influenced the development of each work of art, such as the geopolitical atmosphere, the artist's training, and cultural influence.
